Apple introduced many features and changes with the iOS 10. Some were very useful, such as the widgets placed on the left side of the home screen, while others were really annoying. One of the most annoying features introduced in the new iOS update was how we unlock our phone. Gone are the days when swiping left simply unlocked the phone. Today you have to wake the phone by either pressing the power button or raising your device (if you have 6S or 7) and then has to press the home button to unlock and reach your home screen.
This system has two problems, firstly it adds more stress to the home button that may cause additional wear and tear on the only moving part on the phone. Secondly, if your home button is broken or not functional, then unlocking the iPhone can be a nightmare. However, before you enter the panic mode, here is a simple hack that will bypass the home button and unlock your phone the old fashion way, with the passcode
– To activate this hack one has to go to Settings> General> Accessibility.
– From there you have to find Assistive Touch under the heading Interactions and turn it on.
Assistive Touch is a virtual shortcut button that will pop up on your iPhone screen. Unlike the hardware home button, you can do a lot done with this virtual home button with many options to customize. We will not get into that now, back to our hack.
Once you turned on the Assistive Touch, hitting the virtual button brings many options from access notifications panel, call Siri to press the virtual home button. For the sake of simplicity, I highly suggest you go to the customization option and reduce the number of icons to one and choose home button as the one. This is will make tapping on the Assistive Touch button to work as a home button, instead of a shortcut to many features.
Now, lock your phone and wake it up and tap the virtual home button. Tada! you will take directly to the Passcode screen without even touching the physical home button.
