Yes, you read right. Apple, for the first time, has partnered with a consumer-facing online player to sell its iPhone 7. The Bengaluru-based etailer’s platform will directly source iPhone 7 from Apple. There will be no third-party sellers this time as done in previous years.
The e-commerce company which is already an authorized online seller for all Apple products such as Mac and iPad will now be able to procure the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones directly from Apple.
The development was first reported by online portal BGR.in. However, there is no official confirmation either by Flipkart or Apple India spokesperson yet. (Also read: SanDisk Introduces World’s First Ever 1TB SD Card)
It is important to note that until now only Infibeam has been selling iPhones in India, whereas Flipkart sold Mac and iPad. However, Infibean will receive the new iPhones directly but it will no longer be the bulk seller of the phones and would not deal with customers directly.
Flipkart, which possesses the largest e-tail market share in India, has already dedicated a new micro-site for selling the iPhone 7. The e-commerce company generates a major source of its revenues from selling smartphone.
The partnership between Apple and Flipkart is likely to benefit the e-commerce major at a time when it is facing stiff competition from American rival Amazon. The tie-up may help provide fresh excitement during the festival season sales.
The new Apple iPhone 7 is now a water resistant smartphone that lacks a 3.5mm audio jack. The phone will come in two new colours and the iPhone 7 Plus will sport a dual primary camera.
