Apple has now sold over a billion iPhones making it the best-selling phone of its kind in the history. Apple CEO Tim Cooks says the iPhone is the industry gold standard and the whole tech world seems to agree with that. The new iPhone 7 comes in a new finish called Jet-Black finish, along with a new black variant as well as in gold, silver and rose gold. The iPhone 7 will launch in India on October 7 and will be sold for Rs 60,000, which is lesser than the launch price of the iPhone 6S. The AirPod earphones are priced at Rs 15,400.
The New Home Button
The iconic iPhone home button is radically redesigned. It is now a non-mechanical button similar to the trackpad on the new 12 inch Macbook. Gone are the mechanical clicks and it is now a force sensitive solid state button with a Taptic Engine giving you a click-like feedback. It can be user-customized and can be programmed by the third-party apps to give different clicks and feedbacks with the Taptic Engine.
The new iPhone 7 camera features optical stabilization and a wider F 1.8 aperture which lets 50% more light in. Additionally, there will be a new six-element lens and a faster 12-megapixel sensor on it . A new flicker sensor is added alongside the flash which reads flicker in artificial light that will let you take amazing pictures in indoor lighting. The new camera has a 60% faster and 30% efficient sensor and true tone flash with four LEDs. The iPhone 7 will also have an upgraded 7-megapixel front camera with auto image stabilization features. And, now with the iPhone 7, you can edit all those live photos you love.
The Dual-Camera System
As we predicted days ago, the new iPhone will now feature a dual- camera system, although it is limited to the Plus variant. There are now two 12 megapixel cameras in the back, one with a wide angle lens and other with telephoto lens providing real zooming. The two cameras and two lenses work in tandem to create a zoom feature with 2x optical zoom and up to 10x software zoom. Additionally, the dual cameras will create a depth map to find the subjects of a photo. And with Apple’s machine learning software, it will blur the background giving you an amazing bokeh effect that can previously be only achieved with highly priced DSLRs
Water and Dust Resistance
Finally, Apple brings the water and dust resistance feature to the iPhone, something that Samsung Galaxy S7 boasted about. The iPhone 6S had limited light water resistance result of protective gaskets inside the body, however, it was far limited compared to Galaxy S7. Hence, Apple didn’t even bother it to mention it in the last year’s event. The new iPhone 7 has the IP67 dust and water resistance similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7, which means it can be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes time without any worry.
New Retina HD display
Apple says that the Retina HD display in the iPhone is the best display on any smartphone. The new Retina HD display is 25 percent brighter and has a wider color gamut similar to the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, with improved color management and 3D Touch baked into it.
Apple brings stereo speakers with the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. One of the speakers is placed at top alongside the earpiece and the other one in the bottom. Apple says it now gives twice the volume from the last model, which is iPhone 6s, and the new speaker system has an increased dynamic range as well.
The new EarPods are now coming with lighting connector bringing an end to the headphone jack. According to Apple one of the main reasons for this move is to free up more space inside the phone chassis to add new technologies. And maintaining an ‘ancient analog single use connector isn’t a great use of space’. Additionally, Apple released a new wireless version of the EarPods called AirPods and the new iPhone 7 comes with an adapter for those users who want to use their existing headphones.
The New A10 Fusion Chip
Apple went full fledge on performance with a new 64 bit four core processors. It has two high-performance cores for high performing tasks and two high-efficiency cores for tasks that require low performance. This is a clever way to save battery life in the new iPhone 7. The new chip is 40 % faster than the A9 from iPhone 6s and the new six core graphic chip is 50% faster, making it the most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. This brings console-level gaming and ability to edit raw photos in professional apps like Adobe Lightroom to the iPhone 7.
The new iPhone 7 is priced at $649 and the Plus variant is priced at $769, with both available on September 16 starting with a base 32 GB model.
